I will admit it - I didn't watch the whole game last night. I saw till there were 5 minutes left in the second and we were down around 17. I gave up hope. I should have known better - they were not the "comeback Kings" for nothing :) Man, what a game it must have been. I would have screamed till my throat gave out last night if I had watched. I am sorry I didn't believe you could do it. Nothing is impossible for you guys. Go get 'em!
ESPN.com - NBA Playoffs 2003 - Mavericks turn Spurs inside out in Game 5
Basically, the softies did it again. The softies staved off elimination and gave Nowitzki an opportunity -- bet big on him to play Thursday -- to make his own heroic comeback in Game 6. In the sort of grinding playoff setting where they supposedly don't belong, this team of allegedly lightweight jump-shooters -- this time minus their best player -- wiped out the big deficit, held the Spurs to 10 fourth-quarter points, finished with more rebounds than the longer, stronger hosts and hiked the series back to Dallas.Posted by shanti at May 28, 2003 6:50 AM"It's hilarious," said Mavericks guard Steve Nash, chuckling at the idea of hushing naysayers yet again in these playoffs. "What can I say? We're a tough team to beat."

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference I am sorry, Mavs!:
I guess they owe it to Nellie too! He did that Bruise-A-Bruce at the end of second quarter and it made a huge difference. Man, they are a tough team to beat! I’d love to see a Game 7 …

Why can’t we play both the next two games in San Antonio? I don’t want any more home games :)
I am just so impressed by the “refuse to lose” attitude - man, if this team has anything, it is heart!

Yup Shanti, over the past 3 years, Mavs won 7-2 when facing elimination games.

The Mavericks played two amazing games in games four and five, winning one and losing one. Because of the problems they have with a short bench, due to injury, I really doubt that they can beat San Antonio two more times. They’re just going to run out of gas at some point.
San Antonio’s play is baffling at times, though. throughout the fourth quarter they would not run the offense and just jack up bad shots near the end of the shot clock. Someone needs to tell them to give Tim Duncan the ball on every possession and someone needs to make sure that in the fourth quarter, Malik Rose is playing in place of David Robinson.
I am going to remove the title, “dirtiest white guy in the NBA” from John Stockton and give it to Eduardo Najera. Going after a guy’s head because you’re out of position and he’s going to get a layup is just uncalled for. Sometimes you just have to let it go. (He did get a flagrant, but I’m surprised he didn’t get ejected on that play).
The Hack-A-Bowen didn’t really do much, BTW. He was 4 of 6 from the line during that little stretch. The Mavs made one shot, a 3-pointer by Walt Williams during that stretch. The other two possessions were an offensive foul and a missed shot. So they gave up 4 and got 3. I’m sure San Antonio will give the Mavs 3 points for every 4 that they themselves score all night long.

I am pretty sure tonight’s game will be probably the last game the Mavs will play without Dirk, either ways. I hope they can keep up the energy for one more game and run and gun and get the win. Even if they do lose today, they have done waaay more than anyone gave them credit for, so I am still satisfied.
I think Hack-a-Bowen is not exactly to outscore the Spurs, but slow them down, get them out of the rhythm and mess with Bowen’s head a bit. I think it has worked to some extent inthe Games 1 and 5.
As for Najera, Stockton was underhanded - Najera just puts it all out there. It is his job to make sure no one gets easy layups and he is willing to take the flagrants and hard fouls for it. Normally, it isn’t required, but when you are playing with 6’6’ power-forwards and similar centers, we have to do something.
I think the crowd at AAC will be a big factor tonight - Raja Bell told them - “If you leave the stadium and you are able to talk, you didn’t do your job, and if we leave the stadium and we are able to walk, we didn’t do our job”. I think as Nick said, “our best win is yet to come” :beam:
