Gag reflex alert!

Welcome to rediff.com
Subject: Bidwai’s article:Don’t sacntify US empire……

Dear Sir,
An eye opening initiative taken by Bidwai is laudable. His singlehanded struggle against inhuman policies and programmes affecting the poor addresses issues which concern the common peoples.Truly,American invasion was a shamless act and an exibhition of ruthless power against the weak.It has nothing to do with the welfare of the common Iraqis. The American interests for oil were at stake. As the largest number of cars in the world is used by Americans. The filthy, disgusting, and belligerent show of superpower is inhuman. Now Bush wants our soldiers to die who have nothing to do with the oil.Advani,a self styled statesman, who should be tried in the court of law for fomenting riots causing killings of innocent muslims, spreading the venom against the minority, creating a perpetual divide between Muslims and Hindus for coming to the power, wants to put innocent lives of our soldiers in danger in the name of Kashmir. No way!!It must be opposed tooth and nail. The opposition party should not give in to the pressure in the name of Kashmir. This is the right time to show the US that it can’t take us for granted.Instead of snubbing the US the RSS Govt is seeking the mandate. It’s obnoxious

Nothing to add. really. nope. absolutely nothing. blechh! Ok, I am fine now! I think Shinde is the kind of guy who must have been really happy to see IK Gujral hugging Saddam during the Gulf War. Of course, anybody whose idea of a hero is Prafool Bidwai is not fit to be taken seriously.

Sounds like some idealistic teenager got hold of some leftist literature and is trying to impress everyone with his knowledge. What a naive oaf.

Seriously, Niraj - It is just amazing and reminds me of the saying - “those who don’t learn from history are condemned to repeat it”. It is crazy how few Indians are really savvy about history or global politics - all they have are the vestiges of Nehruvian socialism that they are tought with such zeal from kindergarten on. :(

Aaaaargh!

Can you believe this piece of … was the editor of Times of India once? Kinda shows how scrwed up and warped the worldview of that newspaper is. This week Prafool is supposedly on a tour in California talking about the usual crap. I pity the fools who get indoctrinated by this.

I agree, Ender - it is sad to see people taken in by not-so-master manipulators like Bidwai, who are like sugar-coated poison, when it serves their needs. Bidwai is all patritic in the article, just because that means showing up the US - if it were between Pakistan and India (let’s say the Pakis requested India to send troops to Iraq), he would be falling all over himself to do the Pakistanis’ bidding. A mongrel of a man! I just wish so many people weren’t be taken up with him.

On a side note, California is just the perfect for Bidwai! Isn’t it hypocritical of him to be taking US vacations and earning dollars, while decrying US in every single way all the time?

I heard Arundhati Roy is in Santa Clara crying about Gujarat this week, Praful might be her body guard.

Posted by: JK at June 26, 2003 6:46 PM

JK, can you imagine what would happen if Roy and Bidwai got together and had kids? Franken-communist-pinkos would be born :)

Oh, btw - don’t you live in California? ;)

That’s quite odd. I’ve long thought that closer ties between the United States and India would be a good thing (as a counter to growing Chinese power). Two large democratic nations with similar political heritage (former British colonies) would seem to make an ideal alliance. The influx of talented individuals from India, and the outsourcing of many jobs to India make clear that, at least economically, we are already intertwined. What would be bad about a strategic alliance as well?

If this person were truly concerned about the common Iraqi, I cannot fathom why he might believe that said Iraqi was better off under Saddam than he is now. I’m sure there are some difficulties, but when you are no longer under threat of imminent death, that has to be an improvement, doesn’t it?

Aside from that, wouldn’t it be better for him, then to support Indian troops in Iraq, if only to protect the Iraqis from the ruthless Americans and to show solidarity with the Muslims for whom he seems to have so much affection?

Oh, btw - don’t you live in California?

Yes, I am not in Santa Clara anymore. Else I would have gone to meet Bidwai. I live in L.A where the current rage is shooting people.

Oh my god!! … we have a monster here!! Hitler would look like a pussy compared to Advani!!
He must be stopped! … India must be saved! … Bidwai must lead the country!!

“those who don’t learn from history are condemned to repeat it”

or to be more accurate:

“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” - George Santayana

(possibly one of the most misquoted people on the planet)

Isn’t it hypocritical of him to be taking US vacations and earning dollars, while decrying US in every single way all the time?

Logically speaking (and you know I love logic), no, it’s not inconsistent. You can admire US values like capitalism, freedom of speech, etc. (like Yazad and I do) and still disagree with US government policy. By that measure, no American citizen should disagree with what their government does, eh?

Of course, anybody whose idea of a hero is Prafool Bidwai is not fit to be taken seriously.

Oooh… an appeal to ridicule. ;)

It seems the Pakis (Paki is now a racial term according to a British court, but never mind!) wanna grab every dollar. They are gonna send their troops http://www.dawn.com/2003/06/27/ed.htm#1

Gen. Mushy did’nt even bother to put a word about his to his people while Indian government is trying to make a consensus on this. Not surprisingly, the Indian mainstream media is full of Bidwai-type one-sided stories.
