Hmmm....

Maybe these people haven’t heard of all the “thousands of civilian casualties” in Iraq, or they wouldn’t ask for the US help in achieving their dream of democracy now, would they?

BBC NEWS | World | Middle East | Iranian protesters remain resolute
The Iranian people have shown their urgent tendency for freedom. Now the US must start to support the demonstration by warning the Iran government not to act against the people. This enforcement from the outside and people’s demonstration inside, will finally down the Iran regime. We are waiting for immediate support of the US. Farshad, Iran

Hey, what do you think of this -

I felt sorryu for the woman till I read about how fondly she feels about the monster going by the name of Uday. She deserves every bit of bad luck she gets.

In general though, I completely agree that the US should now be firm in dealing with the Shiite Mullahs trying to take over the place and not let Iraq become Iran, while Iran is trying to free herself from the religious lunacy.

I think it is the American responsibility to achieve stability in Iraq and ultimately leave Iraq a better place than when they invaded. It makes sense even from the American point-of-view, since a stable Iraq is one less source of terrorism. Americans could have and should have done a lot more to improve the situation in Iraq right now, and I hope they will get better at maintaining law and order.

At least he made the trains run on time…

Hmm…..so just because she was one of the consenting playthings of a despot, she deserves to have her personal freedom snatched?

Certainly a far cry from my favourite quote - “I may disagree with you, but I will defend to death, your right to say it.”

Personal freedom is similar to free speech. Regardless of what any human being does, there are certain rights that he/she is born with. To say that she deserves what is happening to her…..hypocritical.

And even condoning the viewpoint that the personal freedom deserved is somehow linked to your opinions,
this is what she said about Uday -

“”Sometimes I stayed to chat with Uday after I ended my dance. He had an easy manner. He never did anything to offend me,” she said. “It is true that he used to drink a lot but he always kept in good control of himself.””

Now if the dude had an easy manner, never did anything to offend her, and could hold his drink………and if she is stating that…I don’t see how that becomes her “feeling fondly” about him.

I think you have intense contempt for anyone who does not have hateful words for the Saddam regime. Even if those words are not complimentary, you hate those words.

Well, what kind of person doesn’t have a hateful word or two for the former Saddam regime with the continuing discovery of mass graves and other crimes committed by the Baa’thists ? And why shouldn’t one have contempt for that sort of apologist? With personal freedom comes personal responsibility (and no, that doesn’t mean I think she, or anyone else, deserves to lose their freedoms). I do think, however, that she is a fool.

Not so, Gaurav, since now you are putting words in mouth. Yes, I cannot stand people who would support a regime like Saddam’s and his sons Uday and Qusay who got their jollies putting people through plastic shredders and putting athletes who didn’t “perform” in the Iron Maiden. I am sorry but evil is evil and I don’t like people who insist on defending it.

I don’t care if Uday kissed babies and never kicked puppies - that doesn’t make him any less of a monster than he is. I am not condoning anybody snatching anybody’s personal freedom away. But why not think about maybe the reason why this person is not being treated well is because of her connections with the regime….Maybe that is the reason why she is not being hired anymore.

I am not going to sit by and condone anybody snatching anyone’s rights - I am not going to shed tears over a belly dancer who misses poor, wittle, easy-mannered Uday either - “Siri misses dancing for one of her best customers, Saddam Hussein’s son Uday”. If that is not fondness, what is your definition of fondness?

Ravi, true - maybe for Iraq’s belly-dancers’ sake we should just let Saddam back into power.
