This got me excited about the coming season now - I think we have definitely gotten younger, taller and more versatile with this addition.I will miss Nick Van Exel, though - he was the little spark plug who put us ahead in the play-offs. Jamison is way better than Zo, Malone or Brad Miller and this trade puts us only below LA, SA and Minnesota, I think, though that could easily change if the other teams have chemistry or “court” problems.
ESPN.com - NBA - Mavs get Jamison in blockbuster nine-player tradeDALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks finally made a major offseason move, acquiring Antawn Jamison in a nine-player trade with the Golden State Warriors. The Mavericks also got guard Jiri Welsch and forwards Danny Fortson and Chris Mills from the Warriors for guards Nick Van Exel, Avery Johnson and Antoine Rigaudeau, center Evan Eschmeyer and forward Popeye Jones in the deal announced Monday.Posted by shanti at August 19, 2003 9:04 AM

I’ll definitely miss Van Exel. I probably couldn’t count the number of times he came through for us last year. Always with the energetic hustles and the point-making shots…
But Jamison will be a strong addition. This should be an exciting season!

I agree, Gokul - Nick and his F’em attitude was what the doctor ordered for the Mavs to get up off their butts and kick some King butt :) I still can’t forget Game 2 of the series :beam:

Every Mavs fan will miss Nick the Quick. I am sure this deal is in the best interest of the team. I hope they emerge stronger after this deal and get over this “return of the Lakers” thing. We also need to watch the Wolves!

I agree, L - I think Sacramento to tell teh truth hasn’t developed that much in the off-season, all said and done - they lost Hedo, Pollard, Keon Clark and gained one Brad Miller, a great all-star from the Leastern Conference - they are not the deepest team anymore - SA has that now.
I agree the season opener between us Mavs and the Lakers is going to real interesting now and we should watch out for the Wolves :)

IMHO, I think Nick was just too talented to be coming off the bench behind Nash. Moreover, the Mavs have been pretty soft upfront especially at #3 where Najera gives them some muscle, but gets into foul trouble too often, and is not much of a scorer. In Jamison, the Mavs get a legit small forward who can score and rebound.
Great pick up guys! BTW, whats up with the ‘Boys??

You are right, Rajesh - Nick was a starter playing backup to Nash - it was amazing how well he fit into that, though. I am pretty excited about this trade and if Fortson plays at half his talent-level, we even have a legit bruiser/enforcer in the paint :)
As for the ‘Boys, I was happy they won atleast against the Texans, even though it really doesn’t count as the season hasn’t started yet…
