This sounds pretty cool, if it is true. It could also end up saving a lot of lives - good job!
India develops device to ‘pre-empt’ terror blastsNEW DELHI: Hundreds of people who die each year in remote-controlled explosions set off by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir might be saved by a radar-like scanner developed by India’s defence industry, officials said on Thursday. The device — to be tested this month — will detonate explosives in terrorist hideouts before they can be planted in markets or under police and army vehicles.Posted by shanti at August 7, 2003 2:23 PM

I’m skeptical myself, I’ll just have to wait and see when results start coming in!

True, Niraj - I can see plenty of uses for something like this in the Naxal area of Andhra too.

It can actually work! … Good job BEL!!
… but I also foresee terrorists reverting back to non-radio-activated detonators, if this device is put into use.

Sameer - I see it as a game of chess - the moment one move is foiled, another is designed.

I question the sense in touting this achievement publicly. Why not keep it a secret while using it? It would take time for terrorists to figure out that the army was actually causing the devices to blow up in their face.
Kinda like police cars with loud blaring sirens while going on raids.

That is a defnite concern, Gaurav - I guess sometimes the need to brag overtakes the need for secrecy and sensibility.
