April's Blog Mela

I apologize first for bringing this a few days late - The Apprentice finale and the start of the NBA playoff season didn’t do much to help my already crunched time status :) Let’s dive in -

1. Vinod Vallopillil, our resident commentator on all things non-resident Indian, wonders of the Indian diaspora in the US are the new Jews

2. Bhavya Khanna has a few glimses of life’s moments during birthdays (March 31) and celebratory gambling (March 17) after the end of exams…

3. Om Malik has a very interesting post about the India growing to be the most exciting cell phone market in the world today and how cell phones are pervading all walks of life there.

4. Nandan has an informative business blog about P&G slashing the price of washing powder where he offers some good clues to FMCG about the Indian consumers.

5. JK lays the smackdown on John Laxmi, an American “journalist” who doesn’t seem to let facts get in the way of a good ideological argument against India.

6. Aadisht Khanna describes an extremely funny interview he had to get into IIMC and a funny but insightful take on the “Youth Initiative for Peace”.

7. Gotta commend Gaurav for coming up with “The Daily SomeAchaar”, a desi “Onion”. We need more humor in here. This post talks about Mayawati’s TV channel.

Voting will be up sometime tomorrow - till then enjoy reading the wonderful posts.

Voting is up by popular demand (well, one cartel member can be counted as all of them, right?).

As you can see, the AnarCapLib cartel decided to give someone else a chance this time in the blog mela!

Posted by: Yazad at April 18, 2004 11:41 PM

So we noticed, Yaz! I guess you are biding your time till you can attack us from both your blog and the newly reopened “Examined Life” for the next month ;)

Posted by: Shanti at April 19, 2004 8:41 AM

At least spell “India” right, you silly NRI woman!

(and I thought personal journal entries were not eligible for inclusion.)

Posted by: MadMan at April 19, 2004 12:04 PM

For the record, my excuse for not finishing my piece and posting it is that two of my chefs are on leave due to personal emergencies. This has made me one of the grunt chefs in the restaurant kitchen. Cooking non-stop for hours on end is tiring, leaving no time for writing meaningful stuff.

(There, that should suffice for the puny mortals.)

Posted by: MadMan at April 19, 2004 12:06 PM

Oops, will fix that right away before the MadMan can get any madder about me ;)

We are accepting personal posts as long as they are not of the what I did this morning after I got up variety - since this is a contest anyway, we think our readers/voters will decide on the worth of the post.

Thanks for the excuse, though - you guys still let the cartel down :tongue3:

I wish to respectfully point out that Gaurav, when he is not blogging non-stop about cricket is a member of the CapLib cartel.

Posted by: Ravikiran Rao at April 20, 2004 12:49 AM

Can we please have negative voting for pieces we don’t like? The Blog Raspberry? Give the winner a booby prize (preferably hope he wins a Darwin)

Posted by: Yazad at April 20, 2004 1:17 PM

You can always do the negative voting in the comments, Yaz - I think that will be fun to hear and way better than just seeing the negative votes :)

Looks like this month’s going to be business month in the mela world! (Shanthi, I just gave you a subtle hint to a great idea !!)

Posted by: ripples at April 20, 2004 2:05 PM

Ripples, I like that! (Have you considered joining the Capitalist portion of the cartel? ;))

Posted by: Shanti at April 20, 2004 5:08 PM

Thanks for doing this Shanti. I confess, I sorta like the personal blog entries as long as they are creative. I like your comment about letting people decide which they like best - it shows faith in your audience!

Posted by: MD at April 21, 2004 11:00 AM

MD, I really like my audience - cartel-brawls aside ;)

Posted by: Shanti at April 21, 2004 3:21 PM

I have been a passive lurker for quite sometime — this blog-mela is a fantastic idea IMHO. I only I wish I was able to read that post reg. that IIM interviews 7 years ago — By now I would’ve been some hotshot investment banker over at NY demanding that Donald Trump give the Apprentice job to me… gawd…

btw, what is all this about booby prizes??!! surely it can’t be the return of the Wardrobe Malfunction, can it? ;-)

Shanti Aunty Shanti Aunty,
Why can’t I vote?

Posted by: Ravikiran Rao at April 22, 2004 12:52 AM

Dilip, Blog Mela does provide a fun and varied range of topics which makes the effort worth it. As for malfunctions, not unless the “cartel” has a “hand on it” ;)

Ravi, you can vote now - and you are banned from submitting entries till you write a post on your blog about how I am NOT an aunty

Posted by: Shanti at April 22, 2004 8:24 AM

how and where do i vote?

Posted by: aNYa at April 22, 2004 2:44 PM

Oops .. looks like voting system has problems on ancient solaris browsers!!!
Got it now.

Posted by: aNYa at April 22, 2004 2:47 PM

Oops, didn’t know that, anya - I am glad the voting is working for you now.

Posted by: Shanti at April 22, 2004 4:19 PM

hey, how does one vote? Is there any button or something?

Posted by: nikhil at May 3, 2004 1:41 AM

Nikhil, voting for this Mela is already closed. We usually have the voting open in the sidebar from the 16th of the month through the end.
