Hey all, I know I have been pretty bad about posting regularly these days. Things have gotten a little hectic since I started working again. My new employers monitor every bit of internet access and as a contractor I don’t get much lee way using it. Once I get home I am so exhausted carrying not just me but also my (fast-growing) baby around that I don’t have much energy to do anything but eat and go to sleep. That is pretty much my boring life so far.
Of course, it couldn’t be a boring life when you are pregnant, right? I have a bunch of “desi” moms at work who have made it their life’s mission to teach me what it is to be pregnant and keep lecturing me on the do’s and don’t s of pregnancy till they are blue in the face and I am ready to drop off out of sheer boredom and irritation. Seriously, why can’t some people just mind their own business? I can only console myself with the fact that it is only 8 more weeks at the most…

Oh, how I miss the old days. I really do miss your posts. Nevertheless, you have other priorities. Is your contract going to end when go on maternity leave, or are you going to return?

Niraj, I miss blogging too - there are so many things I want to talk about, but they just don’t seem relevant by the time I get the time to do anything about them.
I have not discussed the maternity leave situation yet with my employers, but am prepared in the worst case to go find another job (a permanent position this time) in case they refuse to let me come back.

Your employer monitors internet access ? How disgusting! How big is this company ? Don’t they get overwhelmed with data ?

Shanti,
Why is it that people feel so free with advice when you have not asked for it?
Anyway….glad you and the baby are doing well. It’s not the number of posts but the quality that counts and in that sense your blog is very productive ;)

JK, here’s a newsflash: practically all companies today monitor their employees’ online activities; if you work in the IT industry in India, or anywhere in the US, I’d have a think about all the sites you’ve visited at work :beam:
Shanti, I have similar issues when I work at a client site. In that case, I use AvantGo to fetch me the news channels on my Palm, and post via email from the Palm as well. My mobile phone gives me GPRS data access, so its relatively painfree.

JK, they are a pretty big financial company and have surprisingly been voted the best place to work in the country. They won’t even let me access my hotmail email - it is a restricted site.
MD, I agree - it is almost like everyone thinks they are an expert at things and I am pretty irritated when they get on my case if I buy a coke at the cafetaria or if I am eating white bread instead of brown
Suruj, I think I need to do something like you, since it drives me crazy that I cannot check my email throughout the day pretty much.

Hi Shanti,
8 weeks… wow i knew it had been a while, guess time flies…and I just got Int. access at my new site. If you think the uninvited “advice” will stop after the new baby comes…u are just kidding urself … remember just don’t talk about the baby and that will save u more “how I dealt with that is…” stories :). Some of my coworkers are going through the same thing as u, whilst I’m still undergoing the “25 & ur not married?, r ur parents looking? i know this boy… blah blah blah”. :-) I complain… but somedays the fact that our people are so in your business makes for a good amusing laugh.
Take care of yourself…. i promise to check in more regularly.

Hi LS, thanks for checking in. I myself cannot believe how fast time has been moving - it seems like only yesterday when I was complaining about not being able to eat anything.
I think it is a good idea for me to keep my mouth shut about the baby or I am going to get a lot more advice than I wish to take :) I am so sorry it is everybody’s business to try to get you married off ;)
