Of the 75 who died, only 30 died from burns, while the others died in a stampede. No doubt the latter could of been avoided if there were proper procedures for orderly evacuation in case of fires.
And that the school had a thatched roof made the whole building a tinderbox. It was an accident waiting to happen.

Niraj, when I was young, I went to a school where the classrooms were all thatched huts. The school later moevd into brick buildings. I shudder to think this accident could have happened to me then.

Yeah, the pity is that India apparently does not hold fire drills the way we do here - what’s so tragic is that much of this may have been prevented by something as simple as that.

Just terrible.

I agree, moe and L - I heard in a few reports that the teachers fled the permises while the children waited for someone to come and tell them to get out. I hope those who fled will go over those moments in their mind for the rest of their lives.

If u see this accident with microscope.. reasons are
1. Laziness
2. Lack of Awareness
3. Lack of Responsibility
among the school management…but it is not effected them …it is like someone is making mistake..another person is affecting

True, Moorthy - I think the situation will be as bad and no better until the concept of personal responsibility is instilled in the people there.
