Comment Registration

Instead of fighting an exceedingly irritating and ultimately losing battle with comment spammers (rot in hell, spammers!), I have reluctantly enabled comment registration from now on. Sorry, folks - gotta do this till we get a blacklist version compatible with this MT version.

update: I disabled registration until I can get my templates ironed out. Unregistered comments do need to be approved by me to show up.

Shanti, When I updated to 3.01D, instead of generating pages with numbers at the end like /003130.php, mine started generating pages with the subject, as in http://varnam.org/blog/archives/2004/08/terrorism_creat.html

I think spam bots get a URL, append some numbers at the end and try it. With the text description at the end, it has been failing. Ever since I moved into this scheme (I dont know how it changed), I have not got any spam comments.

What MT version do you have? By your site credits I see that it’s MT 3.1, and there is already a Blacklist plugin ready for this version, isn’t it?

JK - it is an option you can turn on in the preferences asking to change your links to search-engine-friendly URLs. The problem with that is that if anyone has linked to your posts before, they can’t reach the post anymore.

Seyd, I thought that version was just for 3.01, but I will check again. Thanks :)
