Favorite food and restaurants

Who says we don’t listen to our commenters? Based on Al Mujahid’s suggestion, here is the place for you to post your favorite kinds of food and the restaurants where one can find it at. I think that would be great since it will give people ideas of new restaurants and foods to try - Comment away!

I will start -

Favorite food:
Thai food
Indian (South-Indian, Hyderabadi, especially).

Favorite restaurants -
Roy’s Hawaiian Cuisine (Plano) for the best Misoyaki Butter Fish ever (pricey place with $10 sakes)
Piman (Irving) for the best Thai food and shrimp wafers ever. Awesome Panang curry!
Pasand (Irving & Richardson) - for the best gulabjamun in Dallas!
Al-Markaz (Lewisville(?)) - Pakistani restaurant that makes really good lamb and chicken biriyanis. Very good Kadahi chicken!

I definitely agree with Piman. Their decor is simple and elegant, and the Thai food is great. Many people don’t like fried ice cream, but I’ve taken a liking to theirs.

Been to Chaat Cafe in N Dallas? Their tandoori wraps are awesome, and last time I went, the line was almost to the door.

Right, so I have to ask…what’s a Roy’s doing in Plano? I thought it was pretty much a local Hawaii chain. Or it could be a completely different restaurant with the same name, I guess. Now I just wish they’d start opening Grace’s Drive-Ins up here.

(and I’m almost positive it should be “…aiian” not “…aaian” while I’m nitpicking :tongue3: )

Gokul, I have heard of the Chaat Cafe but haven’t yet checked it out. It has been recommended to me by so many people, I really want to go eat there.

Chris, the Plano Roy’s is run by the same chef who does the Hawaiian (happy? :tongue3:) chain - Roy Yamaguchi.

Grace’s? Haven’t heard of that. what do they serve?

Are you talking about USA or anywhere? If so, I nominate my restaurant. :)

Sure, MadMan - we need to know good places to eat at when we go to India :)

My favorite place where I haven’t eaten yet is Shiok (Where is my free food now? ;))

In DFW my favorite desi places are:

1. Bombay Chinese for some authentic Indian-chinese food
2. Royal Chat, good fast food somewhere in richardson
3. Ofcourse Madras Pavillon for the best dosa in town!\

Weird, Roy’s expanded to Texas. I wonder if they’re planning on expanding farther.

Grace’s is a plate lunch place (kind of a lunch combo, entree + rice + side) that’s open late and serves good stuff pretty cheap. They started out as a lunch wagon at the UH campus, iirc, and just kept expanding. Just one of the things I miss occasionally up here.

Chaat Cafe is good, I always order the same thing: spicy kofta curry… Since I am vegetarian I could recommed Thali, is almost if not next Al-Markaz, there is also this other Pakistani restaurant close to that area called BBQ Tonite, their buffet is good. I also used to like the chicken tikka masala at Masala Wok. BTW, I just got a coupon in the mail for a complimentary sushi appetizer at Roy’s Hawaiin Cuisine, let me know if you want it, it expires December 15th…

Guys,

Back in town after 2 long years. Visited Chaat Cafe and loved the food. Been there atleast 10 times in the last month and have not been dissapointed even once. The Sunday Special “Punjabi Kadhi” is absolutely delicious.

Tried the Chicken wrap this past weekend, oh Boy! I was licking my fingers….

Best Indian Food in Dallas at present.!!!
