Not that you would care...

but this was the reason I was in a pissy mood the whole of yesterday. This was the first thing I heard on the radio as soon as I got into the car to leave to work. My heart broke for the little girl!

MSNBC - Mother confesses to severingbaby’s arms
PLANO, Texas - With a calm and dispassionate voice and a hymn playing in the background, Dena Schlosser confessed to the unthinkable, telling a 911 operator she’d cut off the arms of her baby girl. The woman was sitting in her living room covered with blood when police arrived Monday. Her nearly 11-month-old daughter lay fatally injured in a crib in a bedroom of the family’s apartment in Plano. The child died shortly afterward at a nearby hospital.

Appalling. And then there’s this line from the end of the article: “At the time we closed the case, we had been assured that Mom was stabilized and that she was not a risk to herself or her children,” Geoff Wool, spokesman for the Family and Protective Services Department, said. IMO, familial support rather than counselling from a impersonal bureaucracy is what was needed here. Flip side of a highly individualistic society :-(.

Its interesting to note that this woman was listening to religious music when she hacked her children. Andrea Yates was also a very very religious woman. Both these women were basically evangelical Texans.

True, Prasenjeet - I wonder how much time did her husband atleast spend with her and how come he wasn’t even remotely aware there was something off about her. I wondered the same thing with Andrea Yates too - how come her idiot husband didn’t realize she was getting psychotic and still kept having babies with her? Why didn’t he do something? Why did he get away scot-free from the incident?

AM, for a minute I couldn’t really see the difference the mom in the case who cut off her infants’ arms to please God and the terrorist scum who cut off peoples’ heads in the name of God. It all seemed the same to me. That was how I felt with Andrea Yates too. As a mom, I thought I could kill to protect my baby. I have got to wonder how seriously psychotic and how dangerous these peoples’ relegious obsession is, that they can sacrifice their children for that craziness.

When I read the article, I almost threw up. I have
a 6 year old daughter and yes I would kill to protect her as well. I guess its an instinct that comes naturally to normal people. These people should not be allowed to have any children.

 Yes, I remember reading in Time magazine about Andrea Yates. I haven’t heard this latest horror story. I gave a lot of thought to the Yates story and I’ll never forget what it said in the article. Her husband visited her in jail and as he went to leave, she said “Have a great life”…Obviously she thought that now her kids were dead and she was in jail, he could get on with his religious duty and pursuits outside of his home life, which is what he’d been doing all along.

In that moment I kind of identified with her. I was so upset with that drongo of a man who just didn’t seem to give a damn about his wife and her stresses. AND they were religious. I bet she never stood up to him and said I’ve had enough, I can’t do this anymore, I can’t cope. You help me cope or else.

Thank you Shanti for alerting us to these sort of situations. And I feel pain for those women who are caught in a nightmare marriage or relationship. Either stand up to the bastards or get out. Don’t let the children suffer because you’re suffering.

The woman clearly looks like a nutjob in the pic posted on the web. My heart aches for that poor baby girl. I can’t even begin to imagine the screams coming from that house…
and that comment about making a decision whether or not to leave the remaining children in their custody is absurd…
there shouldn’t be any pondering over it..
those children need to be taken away.
The father is obviously a nutjob too for being so blind not to see what was happening in his own house.

I am 6 months pregnant, and as i was driving home from the grocery store, they played the 911 recording of this insane women telling 911 she cut her babys arms off. I went numb from my head to my toes, and thought i was going to have a panic attack. I got so upset i started crying. Who on earth would do such a thing to anyone expecially to their innocent helpless child. It makes me very angry, and i dont want to hear this PD crap anymore. She is a killer and thats what she should be treated as. I have nothing but hate for people like this, and she deserves the worst punishment. May the little child rest in peace and be in a new happy world. Im not ever going to get this out of my mind.

Yes I was sickened by this as well. I can not believe people can do this stuff….I mean it’s just shocking!!! How can a mother do this to her child????

Perhaps it’s something in the water in Texas - wasn’t that where the momm drowned her kids as well?

Just sad - so very sad so very horrific

Appalling..But I am glad that God Almighty called that Little Angel back to his home, rather than leaving her to eternal suffering(Both Physical and emotional)… How on earth can a child live with arms amputated by her mom ? BTW, can post partum depression be so worse ?

you know the mother who cut off her infants arms should have her arms cut off. I believe in eye for an eye. what you do to someone or something should be done ot you. I tell you some people are sick in this world. What woudl make a person want to do that to a helpless baby. She deserves to be shot in the face

This woman should be killed immediately. Unfortunately, some scumbag defense attorney will defend her tooth and nail and she will get off with a slap on the wrist because she didnt take her medication that day, her mom didnt pay enough attention to her as a child, or some garbage like that. If these people would be PUNISHED like they should be and not coddled, maybe we would see a decrease in these incidents, and not an increase. I have a 6 month old at home and couldnt imagine ever harming her in any way.
