Freaking Economists

Considering that I was almost done reading “Freakonomics”, it was very interesting to me see this take of an actual economist on the book. I personally love this book and am just bowled over by how un-PC the book is making its findings known and assertions made. I thought it was fundamentally refreshing, so I guess it was a good thing I was not an economist and also a good thing the book was made to appeal to non-economist people like me. A very good read - a fast read.

Hi,

even i have read that book ‘Freakonomics’. it does take some very intersting positions on the issues that are deemed very divisive in american socitey like abortion and drug dealers. authors makes an interesting point especially by linking reduction in crime to 6 million abortions that took place in united states ever since it was legalised in 1973 afeter roe vs. wade decison and also an important point where the book examines the income distribution among drug dealers.

Kashyap, I thought it was very interesting of the authors to not stick to an ideological position and look at questions from all the possible sides. Conservatives might not like their point about abortion reducing the crime rate, and liberals might not like the fact that they prove analytically that abortion might not be worth the cost. It was a very interesting read, to be sure.
