Feminists for Men!

You heard that right! Feminists are now realizing how far they have swung the pendulum for gender rights and are trying to correct the actual imbalance between girls and boys. Research already shows that girls have begun beating boys in almost all things, even starting from infant classes - trends that worry me as the mother of a son. Here is a Guardian article about feminist icon, Doris Lessing taking the boys’ side on the issue. I think it is commendable of her to realize that true equality is not gained by oppressing either gender but in treating all equally and making sure children and adults of both genders get equal opportunities to learn, grow and thrive. Here is a relevant excerpt from the article -
“It is time we began to ask who are these women who continually rubbish men. The most stupid, ill-educated and nasty woman can rubbish the nicest, kindest and most intelligent man and no one protests. “Men seem to be so cowed that they can’t fight back, and it is time they did.”
It is going to take a feminist to question the other feminists and show up the plight of men in this society, because any man trying to do so is automatically regarded as a politically incorrect animal who is only interested in his patriarchy and the oppression of women. God forbid, anyone actually acknowledge that patriarchy is only a thing of the third-world countries and not the West.

That sounds interesting …. but rings true

However the oppression of women in India is still a fact and though equality is the goal we are far more tilted towards the males-

It is true that most developing nations still have to make a lot of strides in gender equality. In the West, it seems like the we are already trying to move things in the opposite direction.

Hello Shanti,

I find that most people think in an unidimensional manner. They say,”So many innocent women are suffering, so let some innocent men suffer”. That judgemental behaviour blinds them and they do not understand that even when a man suffers, most probably a couple of women related to them suffer as well.

I must say, western education makes most people highly judgemental even though many will claim themselves not to be so.

You can find details about the Life extectency rates of men and woman is West.

We handle a politically incorrect website. We did it deliberately (not because of any frustration) and wrote enough articles which will provoke typical feminists.

We find that most Indian Bloggers mimic the media. The blogosphere would be much more effective when there is sufficient variance in ideas, opinions and people learn to tolerate than trying hard to convince each other and attain uniformity. Operating in a Black and White states is quite comfortable to many.

When people have closed minds, you need to do something extremely outrageous/controversial to wake them up. May be, one needs to show mirror to others. We started showing the mirror to many Gender Feminists. Its easy to be a Gender Feminist than a responsible Equity Feminist.

Of course, I do not expect you to agree even 10% to what is there in our website/blog. Because, it was created to generate disagreement.

The system/patriarchy oppresses all.

You will notice that most boys will get conditioned to suppress emotions and stop crying around the age of 5. Soon they start training themselves as protectors and providers of family members. Any insecurity to family hits them hard. Father’s occasional ill health can throw even very young boy into distress. But, society/system teaches him to supress his fears, emotions and remain focused. They also get conditioned to be non-communicative.

It is important to study the gender dynamics in totality than specialising into Feminist or Masculist issues. Cut, paste solutions are dangerous in complex systems. The problems of men and women can not be studied in isolation in two different compartments.

Of course, certain amount of urgency is a must when handling social problems that women face. But, when alarmism is associated with all gender issues, then it is nothing but extremism which will lead to dangerous consequences.

There is a silent revolution underway all over the world and it has reached India. Some men who understood the oppressive nature of patriarchy and grew up fighting alongside with feminists against dowry, foeticide etc. are turning against feminism. Which simply means that there is a slow erosion of support base of feminism (rather gender feminism) in the world and in India. Radical feminists will not understand this till some of their genuine causes get hit due to blockage of funds or demoralisation in their ranks.

When the faithful desert and start working against……thats a clear indicator of beginning of the end.

Have a look this article. (Male Bashing in Indian Media”)

Its important for us to ask,”What went wrong ?”

We found, feminism is in this juncture due to over-reliance on Reductionism. If they understand that Life works in circles, not in Straight Lines, then they can modify their approaches and hence work towards a harmonious society.

Most probably it is too late for them. The feminist propaganda structures are too huge to be given a new direction overnight.

So, we are heading for a real showdown.

The dissidents have got enough cards to play. When feminism started, the communications processes were weak and costly. But, the dissidents got internet now to organise, share ideas and improvise fast. One year back, we had one or two dimensions to confront feminism. Today, we have 10. The strategies have improved radically. One can get hit by the strategic depth of our arguments. We use the same techniques that Feminists have used all along. This disturbs most feminists as they see their mirror images.

Some feminist bloggers offered us dialogue. But, we are waiting to negotiate only with Susan Faludi or Gloria Steinem and their equivalent feminists in India. Till then, I feel we have got nothing to lose.

Sumanth, nice blog you got there and very interesting issues. Trust me, I believe there is a lot more we agree with since I “cannot tolerate intolerance” of any nature :)

Absolutely, justice shouldn’t mean sending sending innocent people to jail.
And we have to look into this equation which is proving v costly for our family:
Stop Violence against Women = Start Violence against Men.
