Bomb Blasts in Varanasi

Four killed in blasts in Indian holy city | Reuters.com
LUCKNOW, India (Reuters) - At least four people were killed and over a dozen wounded in two separate explosions on Tuesday in the Hindu pilgrimage town of Varanasi in northern India, police said.

Television reports said up to 12 may have died.

“So far four people have died, 17 are hospitalized with injuries,” V.N. Rai, inspector-general of police in Uttar Pradesh state, where Varanasi is located, told Reuters. “All entry points to the area have been sealed.”

Atleast the beasts have done their homework - they know Hindus are going to be in a Hanuman temple on a Tuesday. I hope they will rot in hell for an eternity for trying to kill people in a temple - just imagine - a temple in the evening during the aarti time - whom do you see the most? Older people who are mostly helpless, of course. Whatever kind of God stands for this kind of bloodthirst in his name?

Sick bastards. Think I have a point when I say the world would be a better place without religion. (btw, have linked to your post from mine. lemme know if that’s alright)

Sriram, this is the reason why I cannot stand organized religion. Everybody involved has a vested interest in keeping the hatred of the other alive.

No problem about the linking.

RS, I don’t see anything wrong with individuals worshipping - what I worry about is how easy it is for someone to take control of a mob in the name of religion and make people do all kinds of beastly things in the name of God.

Shanti,

What about Communism, Fascism and Nazism.
People will continue to be manipulated with or without religion.
Much of europe and much of USA is atheist, do you think they are better off or they can not be manipulated?
I am also surprised that whatever the opportunity atheist make it a point to bash religion
I am disappointed.

Nothing is going to change. Very few people are bothered. Newspapers and Media will cover this for next 3 to 4 days. Then Dhoni or Pathan will hit a century. Topic changes.
With a grim face all politicians will say, terrorism will be dealt with iron hand and in same speed forget it.
6 months later some other place, some other temple. Same cycle will continue.
Isnt topics like Voting against Iran, protesting against bush, phone tapping the corrupt MP’s, sting operations, Saurav-Chappell spat, uma bharati etc are more important for the country.
Unfortunately we all have accepted terrorism as a part and parcel of daily life!

Gaurav, any ideology that so blinds its followers that they are willing to kill for it - be it Nazism, Fascism, Communism or religion - is reprellent to me. I am not saying this as an atheist - I consider myself more of an agnostic.

Ferrari, you are unfortunately very right. All this till the next topic in the newscycle takes over…

Shanti,

Is it organized religions fault that a Hindu temple got attacked during aarti? Please be rational.

The problem is that one religion is unwilling to reform and has blocked reform by noting that its scriptures are immutable ergo the present interpretations are already perfect. The blood thirsty urge to convert the Kaffir by any means necessary is a foible unique to this religions fanatical subset- aka Islamism, not all organized religions.

Furthermore, yes there are political parties trying to make hay, but how is that the fault of Hinduism.

Your post- pardon me for saying so- equates to “the !@#$ attacked Hindus because of their religious hatred, I hate all organized religions”…it simply, does not make sense.

All the best,
Akash

Akash, in this case there is clearly one single religion to blame. I will not fudge the issue on that. These blasts were unequivocally the fault of one religion and one only.

My views on organized religion on the other hand come from an overall view of things - not ths incident.

The religion itself cannot be blamed for what ignorant people who claim to be its followers are doing. Islam has never encouraged hurting and killing innocent people and anyone who claims it to (even Muslims who believe that it does) obviously have not read the Holy Quran or learned the example of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The problem isn’t religion- its the politics behind the violence. People kill and hurt others in the name of religion, but NO RELIGION encourages this!! Its a misunderstanding by people trying to further their own power - all done for the so-called religion. This isn’t Islam. Islam means peace - obviously those who act barbarically in the name of Islam haven’t understood it in the least!!! But don’t think that all Muslims are like that - there are millions of us who are upset by the actions of so-called Muslims and the incorrect impression of Islam they are presenting to the world. But don’t take my word for it - notice that the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet (pbuh) encouraged love and kindness to all people - that’s the true Islam.

damn! wen will this ever end?

Blaming organized religion for violence instead of the actual people involved in it is like saying that guns kill people. Only human beings are capable of taking blame and credit and not some abstract ideas like religion.
